Mark will demonstrate the different veneering techniques of matching and joining. Clamping methods will be covered as well as making a simple press. Using the vacuum press and other veneering tools will also be covered in this class.

9:30 am – Router Bit Basics – Build the Freud Router Bit Cabinet

Skill level: introductory to intermediate.

Learn the essential skills of routing by seeing how to build the Freud router bit cabinet; see how to get superior performance edging, grooving, and cope and stick cutter alignment.

This clinic shows you how to cut rabbets for cabinet joinery; mill grooves for ¼” plywood cabinet backers; make a shaker style cabinet door with an adjustable tongue and groove router bit set, and cut hinge mortises with a top bearing hinge mortise bit. You will also see how to create moldings with 1/2” cove and round-over router bits.

1:30 pm – Architectural Millwork on a Router Table – Crown Molding Wall Shelf

Skill level: intermediate to advanced

This clinic shows how to expand your woodworking beyond off-the-shelf molding into the world of custom architectural millwork… all with a router table. Using Freud’s unique Architectural Millwork series of router bits, you will see how to mill 5-1/2” wide crown molding and apply it to the construction of a hanging wall shelf. This application shows how wide crown molding enhances furniture projects, but also shows how to build a cornice assembly for adding crown molding in a room.

1st Saturday of each month - Palmetto Woodturners

The Palmetto Woodturners meet on the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 am at Mann Tool & Supply. Most meetings feature an instructional woodturning demonstration and club members bring samples of their work for the monthly Instant Gallery exhibit. Prospective members and guests are always welcome. Annual dues are $25.00 beginning in August of each year. A fee of approximately $10.00 per person is normally collected to compensate demonstrators for their expertise and travel expenses.
