Learn How to Make Cool Stuff

No experience required. In this entry level class we will show you how to set up the lathe and guide you through the proper procedure to complete a Slimline acryllic pen. Everyone will turn a pen. ***Special Ladies Only Session*** In this unique class, students will learn how to measure your wrist for a proper fit, prepare a blank and turn a wooden bangle bracelet. There is no experience required. Each student will complete a bangle bracelet they will be proud to take home to show friends and family. In addition to being a special day out for the ladies, we are happy to be featuring guest instructor, David Fellows! Retired from the SC Department of Juvenile Justice, David continues to give of his time and talents as a volunteer instructor at SCDJJ. We will show you how to set up for bowl turning and guide you through the turning process using the proper tools to complete the bowl. Students will take home one project. Learn how to prepare a green log for turning.We will also discuss drying and storage. Everyone will turn a bowl. We will be making a Celtic Knot pen blank and then turning it on the lathe. Some pen turning experiance is required. Learn to turn a hollow globe ornament. Materials are supplied. Each student will turn one ornament. In this entry level class students will follow along with the instructor as he lays out a simple sign project. The design will be created using Vectric V-Carve Pro software. No experience or materials are required. However, students are welcome to bring their laptop with V-Carve Pro or Aspire software to follow along. All participants will be able to take home a finished sign project. Do you have a little maple and walnut laying around? This class will show you how to take V-Carve Pro and a couple of contrasting woods to make a cool, useful, and maybe even profitable effect. Better yet, one router bit is all you need (attached to a CNC router of course). This 2½ hour course will cover how to use contrasting woods to make flat items such as cutting boards or signs. Also covered will be how to convert text and bitmaps into vectors to form the basis for the inlay. Then we show you the proper strategy to toolpath the inlay. If time permits a demonstration of an inlay being cut on the Axiom Pro CNC. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop with V-Carve Pro or Aspire installed. Our CNC 101 class on September 11, 2019 would be a good prerequisite for this course. Want to learn how to build a river table? It all starts with a form, wood and epoxy. The rest takes some basic tools and a little knowledge. Please join us for a River Table Basics class on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 9am-1pm. The process of fabricating a form, selection and prep of wood, and epoxy pour are some of the topics we will touch on. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you the router. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, bit selection, and adjustment. This class will teach advanced router techniques and jigs to make your router more useful. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you to the router table. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, bit selection, and adjustment. In this class learn to turn a unique alternative style of pen! A one piece snowman pen. No experience required. All materials are provided. Each student will complete one pen. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you to a tablesaw. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, blade selection, and adjustment. In this class we will turn a wooden angel that can be hung as an ornament or placed on a table. All materials are included. We will be demonstrating the jointer, planer and tablesaw to prepare rough stock for use in woodworking projects. No experience required. In this entry level class we will show you how to set up the lathe and guide you through the proper procedure to complete a slimline wooden pen.
