Learn How to Make Cool Stuff

No experience required. In this entry level class we will show you how to set up the lathe and guide you through the proper procedure to complete a Slimline acryllic pen. Everyone will turn a pen. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you to the bandsaw. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, blade selection, and adjustment. We will show you how to set up for bowl turning and guide you through the turning process using the proper tools to complete the bowl. Students will take home one project. Everyone will turn a natural edge bowl. This class is usually offered in the Spring. Fox is a decked double paddle canoe, a boat intended for protected waters along the coast, for lakes and for all those appealing back waters and creeks you are always driving by and meaning to explore someday.
With an 80” long cockpit, Fox is a grand boat for hunting, fishing and canoetripping with a dog or young child seated forward of the paddler.
Fox boasts two water-tight compartments for storage and flotation, ample room for a camping kit and a comfortable seatback and caned seat.
She is 14’7” long with a beam of 30", the finished weight is just over 40 pounds.
We’ll build in the stitch-and-glue method and have the boat assembled at the end of an enjoyable 6 day class. We will be making a Celtic Knot pen blank and then turning it on the lathe. Some pen turning experiance is required. Students will build a Frank Klaus inspired tissue box using dovetail joinery. Students are urged to bring their own chisels (please be sure they are sharpened before class). Students must have some experience cutting dovetails or have taken our dovetail class on 4/25/2019. Free 3D CNC demo on the Axiom AR8PRO+. Registration is not required. At 3:45pm on Friday, July 19, 2019, we will host a one hour demonstration of 3d carving on top of an epoxy river table. This demonstration will integrate CNC 3D into your furniture to make flawless inlays in wood and epoxy at the same time. In this class we will introduce students to hand cut dovetails. Each student will practice layout, sawing and chiseling a dovetail joint. In this class we will demonstrate sharpening lathe tools on the Sorby Pro Edge and the Oneway Wolverine sharpening system. Bring two tools to sharpen. In this class, students will learn to turn a Peppermill. All students will complete and take home a finished project. Want to learn how to build a river table? It all starts with a form, wood and epoxy. The rest takes some basic tools and a little knowledge. Please join us for a River Table Basics class on Saturday, July 13, 2019, from 9am-11am. The process of fabricating a form, selection and prep of wood, and epoxy pour are some of the topics we will touch on. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you the router. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, bit selection, and adjustment. This class will teach advanced router techniques and jigs to make your router more useful. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you to the router table. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, bit selection, and adjustment. This class will instuct you in the building of a stile and rail raised panel cabinet door using the router table. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you to a tablesaw. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, blade selection, and adjustment. In this class we will be showing how to sharpen chisels using several different types of sharpeners. We will be demonstrating the jointer, planer and tablesaw to prepare rough stock for use in woodworking projects. No experience required. In this entry level class we will show you how to set up the lathe and guide you through the proper procedure to complete a slimline wooden pen. This class will run for two weeks, It will start at 5:00pm and run until 8:30pm. Everyone will build their own workbench out of #1 yellow pine. It will be approximately 22"x 68" x 36" with a solid 4" top. It weighs about 250 lbs. All materials for bench and 15-20 hours of instruction/supervision included. Vises are not included.
