Learn How to Make Cool Stuff

No experience required. In this entry level class we will show you how to set up the lathe and guide you through the proper procedure to complete a Slimline acryllic pen. Everyone will turn a pen. In this unique class, students will learn how to measure your wrist for a proper fit, prepare a blank and turn a wooden bangle bracelet. There is no experience required. Each student will complete a bangle bracelet. We are happy to be featuring guest instructor, David Fellows! Retired from the SC Department of Juvenile Justice, David continues to give of his time and talents as a volunteer instructor at SCDJJ. We will show you how to set up for bowl turning and guide you through the turning process using the proper tools to complete the bowl. Students will take home one project. Learn how to prepare a green log for turning.We will also discuss drying and storage. Everyone will turn a bowl. Learn how to prepare a green log for turning. We will also discuss drying and storage. Everyone will turn a natural edge bowl. We will be making a Celtic Knot pen blank and then turning it on the lathe. Some pen turning experiance is required. Learn to turn a hollow globe ornament. Materials are supplied. Each student will turn one ornament. This class will teach you to use V-Carve Pro and EcoPoxy to create some beautiful inlays. Learn to use metallics to bring out the real potential of your projects. Bring your lap top with V-Carve Pro or Aspire if you have it. Vectric offers a free two week trial if you do not have software. A CNC takes some of the guess work out of curves and joints. It also speeds you up by eliminating the need for time consuming layouts and allows for customizing your own style. In this entry level class learn the fundamentals of cutting out rocking chair furniture parts on the CNC. The instructor will guide you through the design process using V-Carve or Aspire software and run a sample part on the CNC. Students may (but are not required) bring their own laptop and follow along in V-Carve or Aspire. Please have your software installed and activated before the start of class if you choose to bring your own computer. A CNC takes some of the guess work out of curves and joints. It also speeds you up by eliminating the need for time consuming layouts and allows for customizing your own style. This class is a continuation of from Part I. Part I is not required to take this class. Part II focuses on assembly. The instructor will guide you through the design process using V-Carve or Aspire software. Students may (but are not required) bring their own laptop and follow along in V-Carve or Aspire. Vectric offers a free two week trial if you do not have software. Please have your software installed and activated before the start of class if you choose to bring your own computer. In this class we will demonstrate sharpening lathe tools on the Sorby Pro Edge and the Oneway Wolverine sharpening system. Bring two tools to sharpen. Want to learn how to build a river table? It all starts with a form, wood and epoxy. The rest takes some basic tools and a little knowledge. Please join us for a River Table Basics class on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 9am-1pm. The process of fabricating a form, selection and prep of wood, and epoxy pour are some of the topics we will touch on. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you to the router. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, bit selection, and adjustment. This class will teach advanced router techniques and jigs to make your router more useful. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you to the router table. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, bit selection, and adjustment. In this class learn to turn a unique alternative style of ink pen! A one piece snowman pen. No experience required. All materials are provided. Each student will complete one pen. No experience required. In this entry level class we will show you how to sharpen and use spindle turning tools including the skew and detail spindle gouge. Several small projects will be turned to be taken home. This class will introduce (or re-introduce) you to a tablesaw. Topics covered will include safety, basic operation, blade selection, and adjustment. In this class we will turn a wooden angel that can be hung as an ornament or placed on a table. All materials are included. No experience required. In this entry level class we will show you how to set up the lathe and guide you through the proper procedure to complete a Wine Bottle Stopper. We will be demonstrating the jointer, planer and tablesaw to prepare rough stock for use in woodworking projects. No experience required.
